Budapest 4x5"

Budapest, Hungary 2014. 4x5" large format shot on colour negative

In the past 25 years, since the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989, the capital of Hungary has gone through many economical and political changes, which is reflected in the city’s visual appearence. Developments have been happening, but the result is somewhat eclectic, lacking global thinking. Travelling through the districts of the city is a travel in time: some parts are very Western, with big shopping malls and shiny bank buildings; but some districts are untouched since the 1960’s and 70’s: railway stations, underground passages, suburban junctions, metro stations. These very different spaces give the city’s mixed character. They are all imprints of history, culture and political situations.

Shot with a 4x5” large format camera, onto colour negative film. Prints are archive inkjet prints, sizes: 130 x 105 cm (large) and 82 x 65 cm (small), mounted and framed.
