Chartreuse

France 2011. medium format on 6x6 colour negative

La Chartreuse de Neuville was built in the early 14th century and was an established monastery for carthusian monks until early 1900's, when the monks left for England.

Since then, it has been a temporary hospital during the two world wars, then a psychiatric department for Berck's hospital.

It changed hands of owners many times and became completely abandoned in 1990.

A small association began activity in order to save and maintain the buildings, open it to public and try and raise funds.

As a photographer, I was given free access to the site, where I created a documentary work on medium format film. During one year, I visited the buildings many times, tracking time and seasons, and the history of the place.
